Ferrochrome

◐Ferrochrome is an iron alloy primarily made of chromium (55% to 75%) and iron, used mainly in the steel industry. It contains impurities like carbon, silicon, sulfur, and phosphorus, and is categorized by carbon content into high carbon (4% to 10% C), medium carbon (0.5% to 4% C), low carbon (>0.15% to 0.5% C), and micro carbon (≤0.15% C) ferrochrome.

Product Details

1.Introduction
Ferrochrome is an iron alloy primarily composed of chromium and iron. It is one of the main alloying agents used in the steel industry. In addition to its main components, chromium and iron, it also contains impurities such as carbon, silicon, sulfur, and phosphorus. Ferrochrome typically contains 55% to 75% chromium and is categorized based on its carbon content into high carbon (4% to 10% C), medium carbon (0.5% to 4% C), low carbon (>0.15% to 0.5% C), and micro carbon (≤0.15% C) ferrochrome. High carbon ferrochrome is also known as carbon ferrochrome, while medium, low, and micro carbon ferrochrome are referred to as refined ferrochrome. High carbon ferrochrome produced from low-chromium ore, containing Cr 50% to 55%, is called charge grade ferrochrome. There is also nitrogen ferrochrome, which contains N 2% to 10%, used as a nitrogen alloying agent and is known as nitrided ferrochrome.

2.Applications
High carbon ferrochrome is used as an alloying agent for ball bearing steel (0.5% to 1.45% Cr), tool steel, die steel (5% to 12% Cr), and high-speed steel (3.8% to 4.4% Cr), enhancing the hardenability, wear resistance, and hardness of the steel. The addition of chromium to cast iron improves its hardness and wear resistance; a chromium content of 0.5% to 1.0% can enhance its mechanical properties.
High carbon ferrochrome and charge grade ferrochrome are used in large quantities as raw materials for smelting stainless steel (AOD or VOD process), reducing production costs.
Medium and low carbon ferrochrome are used to produce medium and low carbon structural steel, carburizing steel, and for manufacturing gears, high-pressure blower blades, valve plates, and more.
Micro carbon ferrochrome is used in the production of stainless steel, acid-resistant steel, heat-resistant steel, and electric heating alloys.
